AirPods Hearing Test not showing on iPhone

Just purchased AirPods Pro 2 and wanted to use them as an additional hearing aid. iPhone has been updated to iOS 18 but when I go to the AirPods menu, there is no option to have them give me a hearing test. Is this not available yet? If so, where can I find that option.

For those wondering why it's not showing, it's probably not available in your region - AirPods Pro 2 - Hearing Health Feature Availability - Apple

It's WILD that my friend in NZ can do the test, but I'm in Australia and it's not available for me lmao

On the 23rd of December it was reported by Trevor Long for Nine News that the Australian TGA had approved the use of Apple's hearing aid function in their AirPods Pro 2. "An Apple spokesperson told 9News, "Receiving product approval from the TGA on our Hearing Test and Hearing Aid features on AirPods Pro 2 is an important first step toward making these features available in Australia. We are working through the other necessary steps to make these experiences available as soon as possible."I am guessing that an upgrade will be issued when Apple has done whatever they need to do to make this available to users in Australia.

My husband and I unknowingly bought each other a set of air pod pros for Xmas! :D Same model etc. He can take the hearing test, but I cannot. Set-up options were different for both of us. His opted to do the hearing test and it just doesn’t show up for me. We both live in the UK and bought them in the UK. Any reasons why ours are different when we both bought them the same way, the online Apple store in our country? TIA.

Did you figure this out? At a guess I think your iPhones are running different IOSs. Have you checked each iPhone?

I’m in the USA OS is 18.1 Firmware is 7B20 yet no hearing assist on my AirPod 4 help I have missed minor hearing loss in my left ear due to a a hole throwing a M80 firecracker next to my ear. Jackass I’m told it will slowly get worse eventually I’ll need actual hearing aid but these should be helpful for the short term. Any advice is appreciated

I'm sorry to tell you that you have the wrong AirPods. The hearing aid feature is available on the AirPod Pros 2.

Update two days later. January 4 2025

After talking to apple help desk online and trying all the resets ,updates etc that were all up to date anyway still no hearing test .Apple help desk did admit they had a real problem and lots of people were having trouble doing the hearing test /using them as hearing aids. They recommended contacting Apple Health which still hasn’t gotten back to me two days later.

I will update again when I hear anything back or get the AirPods to allow a hearing test.

I gave up on waiting for this feature to show up on my Airpods pro 2. I did the hearing test using a third-party App. It's now in my health app, but it simply won't transfer over to the Airpods Pro 2. And, yes, my phone is registered in the U.S. and they do have the correct firmware update. -I thought I could use them as an extra hearing aid but at this point, I will just use them as a nice set of earbuds. If I had known this was going to happen, I wouldn't have bought them. I already have the Beats earbuds. So frustrating.

I’ve heard it is the government preventing this in Australia. I don’t know if this is true, but apparently they get a kickback on hearing aids and so haven’t approved this for AirPod pro 2.

apple support sent me a list of countries that have approval. Australia is not on the list, despite the facet that is has been approved by whatever that department is called that has to approve these things.

it is very disappointing, I have the latest software on my iPhone 13 and all iPads, but there is no sign of it.

if anyone else has heard about this please let me know.
