AirPods Hearing Test not showing on iPhone

Update: On this video posted by Apple, at the 1:35 mark they stated that the feature is only available in the US and Canada.

Those features are not allowed in Canada yet. Look up “Hearing Health Feature Availability“ on the Apple support site.

If you have a device that uses IOS 17.7.1 or older you can get them working as hearing aids through Headphone Accommodations. If you are on IOS 18, 18.01 or 18.1 there is no fix yet until your country approves their use.

Once their use is approved as long as your hearing is mild to moderate they will work. If your hearing loss is severe or worse, they won't.

I believe that this test is not approved either in Canada or in the UK. A workaround is to create a second address in your iTunes account in a country where it is approved. The hearing test then appears and can be used. Also, it stays even after you log back out and into your original account.

Bought my Airpods Pro 2 on Amazon (Apple Store) and they didn't work.

Went to the Apple Store in person.

In order to update the Airpods firmware, you need to put them in their case, close it, then connect it to a charger.

Then, leave your iPhone nearby for around 20-30 minutes.

The update is silent; no notifications.

Next, once the Airpods show the firmware is 7Bxx (the xx is some number), restart your iPhone.

This fixed the problem for me.

all 3 updates, reboot…still mo hearing health. Physically i am traveling in Europe.

Which country specifically were you in when you tried to update them and even more important which country do you live in when you’re not traveling?

I am pretty certain, from what I have read, that Apple ties your location to the country where you set up your Apple ID. If in the US, they will work. If in Canada they won't. The FDA in the US have approved their use. The equivalent of the FDA in Canada have not.

Mine would not even show the hearing aid test option until the pods and the case were at least 80% charged.

with the asterisk but I couldn’t find any info or code chart to explain what % the asterisk referred to.

I live in Sydney Australia. I purchased the AirPods Pro 2 on 18 January 2025 specifically for the purpose of using the hearing aid feature. Like everyone else in Australia who has purchased the AirPods Pro 2 for the purpose of using the hearing aid feature, I was outraged that no-one in the Apple store where I purchased my Airpods Pro 2 (Bondi Junction) mentioned that this feature wasn't available in Australia - even though the use of the Airpods Pro 2 as an 'over the counter hearing assistance device' was approved by the Therapeutic Goods Association on the 18th December 2024. So, the fact that this feature is not yet available in Australia is due to Apple not having updated their iOS software to permit such use here. My iPhone is running iOS 18.3.2 and the 'Hearing Health' option under AirPods Pro 2 does not appear on this update which, I believe, was released yesterday. Extremely disappointing and annoying.

Same here. I cannot find the hearing test in settings or in the health app. Only option I find is to be able to take a photo of a previous audiogram or manually put in the information. Found a professional audiogram from January 2022 and took a photo of it and it input it.

My 13PM is on 18.1 and my AirPods Pro 2 Lightning is on 7B19 and the option is not showing.

The only possible reason that I can think of is that the feature is not yet available in all regions, as stated here on the 7B19 release notes.

In Canada. Updated today to 18.1 and bought AirPods pro2 specifically for this hearing feature. AirPods updated to 7b19. Feature not available in the AirPods hearing health section. What is interesting is I reboot the phone and then go to the AirPods section it shows greyed out for a few seconds then disappears back to just showing Hearing Protection in Hearing Health 🤷🏻‍♂️

Same with new. Brand new AirPods pro 2, updated to 18.1 today, and no hearing test. Does the battery level of the AirPods need to be a certain level, say over 50%? Does the "Ear Tip Fit Test" need to pass? I tried every single ear tip and with all of them I get a message that I need to adjust them or try a different tip.

I was just on a chat with Apple Support and they said the firmware for the AirPod Pro 2 needs to be 7B19. The new ones I got last week were still 6F8. So I have them back in the case and hopefully they will update to 7B19 and it will work.

I couldn't get the test to work with 18.1 and new AirPods Pro 2 out of the case. But after chatting with Apple, the software version on the brand new AirPods Pro 2 was too old. It needed to be updated to 7B19. Once I did the update, the hearing test appeared.

Required: iOS 18.1 and AirPods Pro 2 version 7B19.
