AirPods Hearing Test not showing on iPhone

Just purchased AirPods Pro 2 and wanted to use them as an additional hearing aid. iPhone has been updated to iOS 18 but when I go to the AirPods menu, there is no option to have them give me a hearing test. Is this not available yet? If so, where can I find that option.

For those wondering why it's not showing, it's probably not available in your region - AirPods Pro 2 - Hearing Health Feature Availability - Apple

It's WILD that my friend in NZ can do the test, but I'm in Australia and it's not available for me lmao

Downloaded 18.1 today. When I opened the AirPods Pro section “Take a Hearing Test” came right up. iPhone 16 Pro, Air Pod Pro2 (usb C). Took the test. Went thru the turn on section and they work great. Control Center now has a little icon with an ear. That lets you adjust all kinds of stuff. Ambient Noise Reduction works very well and is easy to adjust in Control Center.

It works! Kind of. Updated my iPhone 13 to iOS 18.1 today and paired it with AirPod Pro 2 with 7B19 and took the hearing test and successfully set up with hearing aid settings.

As a $5,200 aids wearer for the past four years I think I’ll hang on to the pro level aid for a while longer. The AirPods do give me a Bluetooth connection to my phone now with controls to be able to participate in conversations at a boosted hearing level without a change of hearing device. And, there was an adjustment period with the pro aids as well so I need to give these time.

In order to use the hearing test and hearing aid function, three things must be true.

  1. Your iPhone must be updated to 18.1. Here are instructions to update.
  2. Your AirPd Pros 2 must be updated to their latest firmware, which 7B19. Here are instructions to update.
  3. You Apple Account must be registered in a country that supports the hearing aid feature. Check your country here.

Once these three requirements are satisfied, place the AirPod Pro 2s in your ears. Go to Settings > your AirPods. Tap Hearing Assistance. If you haven't taken the Hearing Test, tap Take a Hearing Test.

Hope this helps.

Hey there,

I believe there might be a problem with the Hearing Test feature for developer beta user. I contacted a Genius and she believe that you might need to downgrade back to the public OS (for all OS). Here's the link to do that.

How to uninstall iOS or iPadOS beta software - Apple Support (CA)

You can also try resetting your AirPods Pro 2 but it didn't yield any results for me.

The Genius I talked to said that it's not available for Mac (it is), so if you come across anyone that says otherwise, be cautious about what they're telling you.

For anyone else that sees this, note: this feature is only available on the 2nd get AirPod Pros. You can check by looking for the speakers on the bottom of your case or the lanyard loop on the right side of your case.

I hope this helps!

I plated with these Airpods for two days trying to access the hearing test, finally called Apple support. Turns out the version - which you can see on the Airpods Setting screen under the About section (far down the page) was not up to date. Kind of annoyed me because I assume that when I buy something it is up to date when I open the box.

However.

To fix the problem, I was told to put the APs back in the case, plug it in using the cord that came with the AP for a minimum of 30 minutes.

Voila.

Tried again after 40 minutes and there was the hearing test.

The Version, as of today, 12-14-24, should be 7B21.

Hope that this helps and saves you some time.

I had the problem of missing hearing heath section in the air pod pro controls. Today, I finally solved it. You have to allow the system to access location services. I am located in Colorado, USA. Under privacy & security choose location services then choose system services (the last item) and start toggling the switches to on position one by one until hearing heath section appears under air pod pro control (right after noise cancellation and transparency selections). I switched all on, so I don't know which permission was the necessary and sufficient one. I took the hearing test and setup my air pod pro accordingly, it works pretty well!
