iPhone 16 Pro Max with Digital AV Cable to HDMI: No Sound in Apple TV App

I am trying to play content from my iPhone 16 Pro Max to my vehicle head unit via HDMI. Yes, I am parked but that is not the issue. Tried known working HDMi cables with the same device and the head unit. All good there. All apps seem to work 100% except for the native Apple TV app on my iPhone 16 Pro Max. Yes, it is running the latest patch of iOS 18. I can play the same content from an iPad Mini, or from an iPad Pro, and it works fine. I am using all Apple peripherals down to the cables and dongle (Digital AV Dongle via USBC). This feels like it may be some sort of DRM glitch since it is isolated to just the native app, but I am guessing. Any suggestions?

Using HDMI from iPhone to Car:

You Can't. You need to use CarPlay when it comes to paring an iPhone this with your Car's audio system. The audio goes to the Car's Stereo.

  1. Go here: How to Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Car - Apple Support
  2. As it Reads: "Use CarPlay if you want to connect your iPhone. If that's not available for your vehicle or you want to connect an iPad or iPod touch, use USB playback or Bluetooth."
