Why is the Apple Intelligence not included on my iPhone 16?

Just trade in my iPhone 12 Pro Max for the 16 expecting it to have all the features that were advertised with Apple Intelligence.

But instead I got a phone virtually the same as my 12 with a bit of a hardware upgrade.

It hasn't been released yet. Apple Intelligence will be available this Fall. It was not expected in the initial launch of iOS 18. Visit the website for more details.

Apple Intelligence Preview - Apple

The Apple Intelligence Preview page now says

"Apple Intelligence will be available in beta on all iPhone 16 models, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPad and Mac with M1 and later, with Siri and device language set to U.S. English, as part of an iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia update this fall. English (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, UK) language support available this December. Some features, additional platforms, and support for additional languages, like Chinese, English (India, Singapore), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, and others, will be coming over the course of the next year."

The December timeframe for these non-U.S. variants of English is new. Previously they would have been lumped into the category of "support for additional languages … coming over the course of the next year."

My understanding is that iOS 18 and its point releases so far are in beta. Apple states: "Apple Intelligence is available in beta on all iPhone 16 models, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad mini (A17 Pro), and iPad and Mac models with M1 and later, with Siri and device language set to English (Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, UK, or U.S.), as part of an iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia software update.

No.. I purchased the phone because it was advertised to have AI. So please don’t lecture me about patience. You have a great day though.

You mean you bought the phone without doing ANY research on when it's features would be available. Had you done research on AI, which Apple published publicly, you'd have known just like I did and likely millions of others that Apple Intelligence would arrive this fall and would NOT be on your iPhone on day one. That's on you, no one else.

Apple published this in advance of anyone ever getting an iPhone 16 model --> Apple Intelligence Preview - Apple

Gee thanks for reposting an existing article. It’s been turned on since I’ve purchased it. Turned the device on/off. Hard reset. Check software, left it pre much a full day and half night on charge and connect to WiFi for the additional download. I have done troubleshooting with Apple support. The old Siri shows only still and no intelligence features

No need to be sarcastic. We are all users here on this user to user only forum and we try to help when we can. We don't know everything you've tried. We don't know if by chance you live in the EU and you haven't changed your language and Siri language to one which is supported. We don't know if by chance you own a phone manufactured for the China market, which if you check Settings > General > About > Model would have a model number ending in CH/A, which would mean you can't use Apple Intelligence until it is approved in China, regardless of where you live.

You should return it then if you are within the 14 days. There are many people having to wait to get their hands on one, who realized that AI is a coming soon feature that will be available on that device very shortly.

I just got mine today, Dec 18th, and it does not have Apple intelligence and I too believed it would when I bought it.

Where are you located?

Have you updated your new iPhone to iOS 18.2?

Have you validated you meet all of the requirements as defined in this link --> How to get Apple Intelligence - Apple Support (CA) (such as setting your language to a supported language as well as fro Siri?

Why can’t I start my apple intelligence

Read the link Alancito provided. The three top reasons you may not be able to run Apple Intelligence are:

  1. You are in the EU, where Apple Intelligence won't be available until April 2025.
  2. You haven't set your language and Siri language to one of the supported languages listed in the link.
  3. Your phone was made for the China market and to know that, you open Settings > General > About > Model and if it ends in CH/A, it can't have Apple Intelligence anywhere in the world until (or if) if is approved to be used in China.

You MUST have the device region set to THE SAME region as you have set Siri. I had my iPhone (and my MacBook Air) set to English US, but I had Siri set to a make a British voice (just for fun). Neither my MacBook nor my iPhone 16Pro offered AI. Once I ensured both devices as well as Siri on both devices were set to English US, both devices magic ally started "downloading" Apple Intelligence. I made the mistake of following other advice here which said the only kn own fix was to back up the device, erase and reset, and download the saved data when restoring the device. Didn't work and wasted a ton of time.

Where did you purchase your phone and from whom did you purchase the phone?

Do you live in the EU or China, Hong Kong or Macau?

Was your phone manufactured for China (Open Settings > General > About > Model and if it ends in CH/A, it was manufactured for China and won't have Apple Intelligence anywhere in the world, until it is approved to be used in China).

Is your language and Siri Language set to US English?

Unfortunately without any of the information that has been provided in this post, there is no answer. That are many reasons why you would not have it, but we have no idea about where your phone was manufactured by the model number, the region you are in, the device you are using, or even the iOS version you have. Read the posts here and let us know.
