I am on a Macbook Pro (2013) with BigSur OS Version 11.7.8. I also have MS 365 installed and when I save a word document, 4 additional file folders are created with the exact name and then a bunch of what seems like random letters after docx.
Anyone ever seen this? I appreciate any insight why this is happening and how to get it to stop happening.

I've never seen it, but I'm running an old version of Word.
This thread on the Microsoft Forums reports the same issue and suggests that the folders are temporary ones that normally are not visible. It also suggests that installing updates may fix the issue.

with the caution: "You should not mess with the [temporary] files while a document is open, or you will corrupt the document."
Actually I have experienced it. Unfortunately I don't remember the fix but a Word user forum is likely your best bet.
I recommend contacting Microsoft support since it is their product.

Thanks. I looked at the Microsoft link and it was confusing. When they start mentioning library cache I have no idea what that is.
