im nervous about updating my phone to ios 18, what if my phone will slow its work and battery will die more quickly, yet i really want this update because of pretty home screen designs.

Updates don't degrade batteries. Batteries decline over time with every charge a phone goes through. What is your current battery health? Open Settings > Battery > Battery Health. If you have the original battery in your iPhone and its health is at 80% it's time to replace the battery. If it is below 80% it is past the time to replace the battery.
In terms of the update to iOS 18.5, millions upon millions upon millions have updated to iOS 18.5 with no issues.
FWIW, we’re one of those millions running iOS 18 on an even older phone (an Xs) w/o any issues.
