Unable to mute advertisements in apps

I have apps that allow for muting of sound, but when an advertisement pops up the mute setting is ignored. Some advertisements have a volume button but more and more they do not. I can be in an app listening to a book or music, but when the advertisement pops up the book stops and I get 90 seconds of annoying noise or royal match interviews. It is so frustrating. Android has volume controls in the settings. If you don’t want to have an app have access to your speakers then you can set it up that way. That solves the problem. Why is it that Apple can’t simply put a speaker access on/off button in the apps settings menu? You can deny access to photos from an app, you can set up notification preferences! If the advertisement folks want to shove down minutes of annoying sounds as you try and listen to some music while you playing a game then we should be able to shut it off without having to mute the whole phone. If android can do it so can you Apple!

Did you read my post? I don’t care about the adds. I’ll watch them. I care about the volume. Android has the ability to turn the app sound access off. I can mute the phone volume and not listen to the darn advertisements. Just watch them. I can mute the app in settings. What I can’t do is listen to my music or book without an advertisement stopping it and taking over my speakers. Plenty of ads that do not do that. Any they pay developers too.

As mentioned, if you’re using a free version of an app you have to deal with advertisements and any annoyance that entails. Some apps allow you to mute sound within the app which would include advertisements BUT it sounds like you are using a music app of some sort based on the comment you made about listening to music. Which means the speakers (even if diverted to headphones) are in use. Can’t mute only advertisements but still hear what you want…in this case it appears to be music. If you don’t want to deal with advertisements you will need to pay for the ad-free version of any app you are referring to if they have one. Or if it’s a music service that offers free and paid subscriptions you would likely have to buy a subscription for ad-free options. That’s not an Apple issue (and it’s not something that Android can circumvent if you are using free versions of apps and services). Unless you mean something completely different than your words seem to be explaining.

When you're using apps which are free, you have to suffer the advertisements. It's the only way the app developer can make money to keep providing the app without charge. If you want to eliminate the ads, see if the app has a paid version, which usually provides an ad free experience. And it supports the app developer, so they can continue to support the app.

Android can mute an app in its entirety (just the app you want muted nothing else). You Can listen to music or books while the ad plays in the app with NO Volume (amazing!) Directions below. Google it. And this is an exclusively Apple problem. You also said “Some apps allow you to mute sound within the app which would include advertisements”. That is not true!! As I stated in the first sentence the app has a mute setting but when the ad comes up that mute setting is ignored!! So I think most would agree that having the ability to deny speaker access in the apps settings is a beautiful idea. Android does it and nobody is whining about the poor developers.

Here are some ways to adjust sound access for apps on Android:

Change app permissions

Change permissions for an app:

Open Settings

Tap Apps

Tap the app

Tap Permissions

Tap the permission setting and choose Allow or Don't allow
