Font Book Collections Not Showing

I am trying to organize my fonts into collections in font book. But when I try to create any type of new collection (new collection, new smart collection, new collection from selected) or a new library it doesn't seem to do anything. There is no section for collections in the sidebar either.

Looking at videos from other people on youtube and websites, there seems to usually be a section in the sidebar for collections, but it is absent on my Macbook.

I also seem to have a problem with opening fonts to install them, where it says there is no valid file. But I was able to solve that by dragging the fonts directly into the font folder in library to install them. I don't know if my font book just has problems in general.

Any suggestions?

If you're running Ventral you should have a Collections section in the Font Book sidebar:

Since you're not getting that try the following: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.
