Update to Ventura 13.5 caused Printer problems! Update to 13.11.12.2 still does

This is my 2nd post on this printer issue in :

My 2 yr old Canon Printer showed it was "not connected to WiFi" the day after I uploaded Ventura Update 13.5. I printed the day before, but after the update? But it was [& is] connected, as was my WiFi router & clearly shows up in Systems Settings [all info is correct]. I've tried everything I can think of to fix this problem

I called Apple Care, they found nothing wrong with the mac or system. They told me "it's the printer" to call Canon. [one of the few times Apple Care did not help fix a problem, since 2006!]

  • This type thing, problems with apps etc. happens every time I do an OS Update [6th this year to date?!?]

I did work on the Printer itself, & got the "connection" & was able to print something.

- BUT 3 days later, the printer, though nothing changed, Stopped working again. [sadly I forgot to write down the steps on the printer, drats.]

So, today I updated to Ventura 13.11.12.2, which was touted as it wouls "fix connection problems"

- BUT it did not. The printer still won't print, though the "job" box shows it is "ready to print" or it is "Printing."

Does anyone have an idea what's going on with these multiple updates that mess up apps & devises, but don't fix what they say they will?

Hello Kathylpv,

If your printer is not working, you can try these recommend steps: Solve printing problems on Mac

If it still won't work, you can try resetting it with these steps:

1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Printers & Scanners  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
2. Control-click the printer in the Printers list on the right, then choose Reset Printing System.
3. Note: If no printers appear in the Printers list, you can Control-click the empty list and choose Reset Printing System.
4. After you reset the printing system, the list of printers in Printers & Scanners settings is empty.
5. Re-add any printers.

Reset the printing system on your Mac to solve a problem

Cheers!

Have you installed and run any "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus or VPN apps on your Mac?

Download and run Etrecheck. Be sure to give it Full Disk access before running.

Copy and paste the results into your reply. Etrecheck is a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC and recommended by Apple Support  to provide a snapshot of the system and help identify the more obvious culprits that can adversely affect a Mac's performance.

Copy the report

and use the Additional Text button to paste the report in your reply.

Then we can evaluate the report to see if we can determine the cause of the problem.

Thanks Jamy_8 But the reason I asked the question is because I did ALL of that. I already searched mac's "How To" pages.

The problem however, was I was printing the day before I updated to the next version of Ventura, but the day of the update - the computer showed that the printer was "not connected to the WiFi."

So it wasn't a problem with the printer, but in the update. This happened with the last 2 updates [v 13.5 & 13.5.1]. I had to go through hoops to get it back connected - to the WiFi & computer. It took 2 hours.

But at least, thanks for responding. Kathy B L P V

Updated iMac to Ventura 13.5.2. Printer won't function with scan. Spent hours with Apple and Canon support. Downloaded Canon 'update'. Now the printer takes about 1/2 hour to print a page! And scanner still does not work. Canon support page is so difficult to navigate. No clear path to phone or email contact for support. Should not have to purchase new printer to accommodate updated Mac!

had this same problem. I also downloaded canon drivers but it seems Mac chooses apple default after update. If you go to printer settings and click for the full settings dialogue the bottom box is the driver box. If ,like me, you assumed the new driver was the one in use you might be wrong. Click on the box and there will be more than one option and the one not in use might be the canon one. Mine was labelled 16.80.0 but was not being used. AirPrint wasn't offering me enough options for photos and taking half an hour to print and even then wasn't printing the whole image.
