Mute Apps

I would like to mute my apps like ABC, Hulu etc. with one touch when commercials come on. They are often at a louder volume, and it is bad for my hearing. I can do it with my TV.

Unable to mute advertisements in apps I have apps that allow for muting of sound, but when an advertisement pops up the mute setting is ignored. Some advertisements have a volume button but more and more they do not. I can be in an app listening to a book or music, but when the advertisement pops up the book stops and I get 90 seconds of annoying noise or royal match interviews. It is so frustrating. Android has volume controls in the settings. If you don’t want to have an app have access to your speakers then you can set it up that way. That solves the problem. Why is it that Apple can’t simply put a speaker access on/off button in the apps settings menu? You can deny access to photos from an app, you can set up notification preferences! If the advertisement folks want to shove down minutes of annoying sounds as you try and listen to some music while you playing a game then we should be able to shut it off without having to mute the whole phone. If android can do it so can you Apple!

How do I mute specific apps on iPad for better multitasking? I am looking for the ability to mute individual apps. I do not mean notifications. I want to mute the ability for any sounds the app may want to play. Example of the situation: I am playing music using Safari or Audible while playing a video game. Some video games will interrupt music/audio book thus making it impossible to perform two activities because apps compete over who should play music. the ability to watch video without sound while listening to your favorite music or audiobook without having to listen to native sounds from app is critical. For example, I am listening to the music while reading captions instead of the sound the video provides (YouTube, etc.). [Re-Titled by Moderator]

The only way to lower the volume of apps on your iPhone would be by using one of the methods outlined here: Adjust the volume on iPhone
