Knitting counting as steps on Apple watch

My watch is a couple of years old and counts knitting as steps. Some one told me that the series 7 doesn’t do that. Any other knitters that have the same problem and is this not a problem with the latest watch?

All Apple Watches will interpret wrist movement as steps. Steps is a general measure of daily movement. Typically half will be walking steps and the rest general movement about the house or work (or knitting)

You can turn Fitness Tracking off under nWatch app, My Watch Settings > Privacy > Fitness Tracking on the iPhone.

NB If you're using a workout function, disabling this may affect functionality and accuracy:

Use the Health app on your iPhone or iPod touch
