Renaming a (TextEdit) file in its title bar works very strangely...
I recently installed Monterey 12.6.3 and am just settling in. This observation applies to at least TextEdit and Preview, the two apps in which I need to do this most often.
When an existing Textedit document has been modified, and want to re-name it, it had been sufficient to click in the title bar and type the new name in the NAME field, then hit <return>.
It isn't working like that in Monterey, and it doesn't work in Safe Mode either.
Scenario: a TextEdit file has been modified. To rename it:
- Click in the title bar, click on the drop-down arrow.
The drop-down fields are Names, Tags, and Where.
- Click in the names field, change the name, hit <return>.
The change is not retained in either title window or Name field.
- But change the name as described, TAB to the Tags field, and
The name changes instantly, no <return> required.
- Change the name and click in -not Tab to- 'Where', the name does not change unless the location is changed.
This prior support query seems equivalent, but the solution did not work.
