Health app data

I have had an Apple Watch for a couple of years now. I’ve been collecting health data using it and before that using my iPhone. I got my husband an Apple Watch for Christmas. We share my Apple ID, for convenience, but since he got the Apple Watch his health data has been accumulating in MY health app. (His watch is paired to his phone). I’ve been deleting it from data sources semi-regularly. Then in early January all my steps data for 2020 to the end of 2022 disappeared. Now my steps data pre-January 8th 2023 has disappeared. In attempts to find the issue I came across the message “this watch is no longer paired with this iPhone”, despite all evidence to the contrary. Is there any way to restore the three plus years of missing data? Is it still in the cloud or lurking somewhere else, just not connected to my health app? Is this some weird data archiving glitch?Anyone else experienced this?
