Cannot resize the Preview Window width. Is there a way around this?

FWIW, the minimum width varies depending on the size and resolution of the screen. My guess is the minimum size is to accommodate the markup toolbar.

This is a user forum. No one here can answer "why" Apple did something questions.

BTW, At first I thought you were talking about the Preview app until I looked at your screen shot more carefully. That is actually a Quick Look window. The answers are still the same.
