Im trying to find out if its possible to reduce the space of the preview window so that the edges are closer to the image im viewing? The way it is now, the window takes up a lot of space on the desktop and it hard for me to make close up comparison of image vs image because I cant get it close enough as the wind takes up all the extra empty space.

I know how to scale the image. Im trying to get the window smaller - like in the 2nd image. So the amount of empty grey space is not taking up so much room on the all sides of the image

Ive tried that before, but Preview is not listed....

Ive not placed any bounding boxes around the image. Preview does this for all images viewed.

I tried a window resizer app on my MBP. From App Store. Didn’t work either. Had to refund it.
Even with Preview's Settings > Image > 1 image pixel equals 1 screen point, you won't achieve that snug window fit around an image unless you first dispense with the image's bounding box. Any attempt to resize the Preview window to minimize the background around the image will also reduce the image size.
I can open images that fill the entire Preview window, and others that have Preview's background around them. Depends on the image and not something you can override as a user with Preview. Nature of the beast.

The only way to do what you want is when viewing an image sufficiently large to fill the default Preview window. Somewhere around 1500px by 1500px.
