I have track numbers for every track in my rather large collection in iTunes. I simply want to sort by track number within each album. (This is particularly annoying for showtunes, where the Track Order is essential!) Should be easy, right? But I have tried every hint in this Community, and no joy.

There is typically some inconsistency that causes tracks within an album to show out of order. This may be patchy data in the various sort fields, or some tracks marked as Disc 1 of 1 while others are Disc <Blank> of <Blank>. Some views, or some sort options within those views, may not be designed in a way that always keep albums grouped together and in track order. If the album lists multiple artists then it should also have a common album artist and/or be marked as a compilation. And there are some settings in the Songs view under View > Column Browser that affect display order and grouping elsewhere. Typically these should be set to Group Compilations and Use Album Artists.
