Logic Pro X (11.1.1) not working with Steinberg UR22C

Starting this week, Logic Pro won't get any signal through my Steinberg UR-22C interface.

I downloaded the latest driver, "Steinberg USB Driver 3.1.7", but that didn't fix the problem.

To test if the interface was somehow damaged, I made a recording test in GarageBand (10.4.11) and that worked flawlessly. This should show, that the problem is in the communication between the interface and Logic. My audio settings are the ones I've always used, input and ouput through the Steinberg UR22C (Input 2, for high impedance, as I connect a bass guitar). Changing the output, e.g. to the built in speakers, does not fix the problem.

I use a M2 MacBook Air 2022. Has anyone encountered the same problem and has an idea to fix it?

Thanks a lot. Nicolas

This is a another "smart feature" I don't understand... .

Forget about Input Monitoring.

• De-activate Input Monitoring and

• uncheck the view of Input Monitoring in the Track Header. You may not need it anymore.

• Uncheck Auto Input Monitoring in Logic's Bar top menu > Record > Auto Input Monitoring. Now you should be able to hear your input when Record is enabled no matter weather Logic is playing, recording, paused or stopped.

Edit: Beware, yet another "smart thing". The sliders that look like Volume sliders are two different ones. The slider in the Control Bar affects the Master Fader. It should always be set to 0 db (default). You should never touch it and better hide it. You have the appropriate Master fader in the Mixer window, if you really want to mess with it. The volume slider in the Track header affects the output volume of the Track.

Thanks a lot, yoyoBen. You certainly helped me solve half of the issue, haha. After changing the microphone mode to "standard", I was able to record. That's a really absurd "feature". But there is a second problem:

I can record, sure: I hear monitoring when I'm playing and it definitely generates a track with "stuff". I see the wave!

But playback is still broken. Not only do I not hear anything, regardless of the output setting, but strangely, when playing what I just recorded, the "volume meter" remains empty. That is, Logic shows me that something was recorded, but that generates no output at all.

Thanks again! Nicolas

Thanks for your reply. I restarted (several times) after installing the new driver. Playback of recorded projects has no problem. In fact, playback using the UR22C as output device works fine, as good as other outputs.

The problem is getting an input signal through the UR22C into Logic. As I said before: this issue does not happen when recording in GarageBand.

My guess: the newest version of Logic has a bug that causes a compatibilty issue.

Thanks a lot, yoyoBen. You solved my problem. The problem was, apparently, a combination of the hurdles that you mentioned: the microphone setting (it must be set to "standard") and the strange problem with "Auto input monitoring". Especially the latter makes really no sense! I deactivated the monitoring, as well as the "input monitoring" for the track and now everything works.

Thanks for your help.
