Roland E4 Voice Tweaker: can't get signal in Logic Pro

Hi All

I have a M1 Max Mac Studio running osx 14.2.1 and purchased one of the Roland mobile instruments in the E4 Voice Tweaker.

I bought in mainly to do voice effects in my tracks but have had no luck in getting it to hook up with signal into Logic Pro.

I have it hooked up as required with proper cables (the 5 DIN MIDI to 3.5 mm male stereo cables and the USB) and everything seems to be routed correctly.

the Mac shows the E4 in the Sound settings and if switched to as audio interface shows signal into Mac but can not hear it through any of the output devices I have when switched (Mac Studio speakers, my Alexis audio interface, the monitor speakers etc) the only time I can hear anything from this thing is thru the MIX OUT 3.5 mm output on the E4 itself and a set of headphones.

I was hoping to use this as a midi instrument.

just wondering if anyone has run into something like this before? I figured I would ask here first as Korg support will send me here anyways considering the unit works and provides the signal, it's just the Mac doesn't get it.

thanks!

(if it is something really dumb that I didn't know about... I am a total beginner here. I apologize in advance!)

no… i tried support and was getting no help whatsoever so i sent my unit back for a refund.

i decided it just wasn’t worth it considering i could do same thing post production… sort of.

sorry for the late reply.

I'm not familiar with the E4, but it should be a straight forward hookup. You only need to use the USB cable to hook up to the Mac. The 5pin to 3.5 mm cable is only needed to connect a midi keyboard to the E4 for vocoder/autotune effects.

When the E4 is hooked up, plug your mic in to the E4. Make sure the E4 is set as the input in the Audio section of the general settings. Make sure the input for the audio track is the same as the E4, probably input 1.

Make sure the track that the E4 is using is selected. You should see the R turn red with grey surrounding it. Right next to it click on the "I" button. This is input monitoring. It allows you to hear what is hooked up to that track, likely with your headphones. You should now be able to hear/monitor the signal coming from the E4. As long as the "I" is orange, you can now select any other track and you'll still hear the signal from the E4. But when you do select another track the "R" is no longer red. So if you hit the record button, or type "R" that track won't record.

So make sure that track is highlighted. OR you can click on the "R" and it turns a flashing red. This will stay in the record enabled mode no matter which tracks you have selected. You can have more than one track enabled if you're recording many things at one time. Just click again to turn them off.

I hope this helps

i am waiting on a reply from Roland support. i looked everywhere on youtube looking for a tutorial or anything explaining the exact method of doing this but there is nothing. just a lot of sales talk and opinions.

was hoping someone here was familiar with hooking up these mini portables to the Mac and Logic.

i will post what Roland says when they get back to me!
