Sequoia Calculator Paper Tape Gone?

You are going to get some kick back here but hold strong. Apple didn’t do right here and when some complain there are a few that will tell you to use the App Store. The point is, it was a good app, now it’s meager. Too bad for us who liked it the way it was. 😉

I know you are explaining how Apple works.

But: In no reasonable sense of the word is the user interface more complicated with the paper tape than it is with the history.

Unless one discovered it in the Menu and invoked it, it was invisible. Same as history is now.

And if Apple wanted to remove that option from the Menu, they could simply have had the paper tape show all the time. A large number of users would be able to discern what this other window was displaying.

The second offense, of course, is the failure to notify the user of the two changes: 1) remove paper tape; 2) insert a new, modern, smaller typeface, black background, hidden feature, the history--without telling the user that they made the change.

The macOS feedback is for all things bundled with macOS. There are a few “bigger” bundled apps that have individual feedback, but all the little ones go into the macOS feedback.

It's up to you. The less feedback Apple gets on an issue, the less likely they are to make the change.

There was literally no reason to remove the paper tape. It requires what? Four lines of code. They should have just kept it alongside the new history feature. It doesn't simplify the interface by not having it. I't just reduces the functionality of the app. Yeah, you can kind of do the same thing with the history panel, but not exactly.

Grrrrrr.

Some programmer(s) had to devote hours to making this app LESS USEFUL, redesigning Paper Tape to the inferior "History" UI, and making even History unavailable except in grade-school ("Basic") mode.

What ITH were they thinking?

I agree, and Math Notes is a large clunky alternative that does not stack the equations and doesn't respond to return/enter as equals. I hope they bring Paper Tape back in an update 🤞

Programmer fight! I may have had to implement RPN with a stack, but I would never use it.

I've always been a contrarian. My calculators were Sharp.

I had an HP, 11C maybe? I loved it. And the best thing was that no one ever borrowed my calculator and didn't return it. They'd hand it right back.

And the build quality was fantastic.
