My phone is now working!
So after looking at the suggestions for a fix, I discovered that a soft reset worked perfectly for me. Suddenly Siri is working and there's no dictation lag. I'm no longer grumpy with my phone. I strongly recommend this for everyone suffering lag on their 16 Pro Max (or possibly other models,) as this was a lifesaver for me.
Here's the simple process:
Done! This is all it took to get my phone working great. I hope it works for you, too.
This response is not helpful. Siri will do everything but read directions Siri looks up directions but will not navigate out loud when in CarPlay.
I have the same issue. Checked location services for weather and Siri as well as prefer spoken responses.
the only way I can get Siri to verbally reply is by calling Siri a #%+£!. Siri then says “ok, is there anything I can help you with?” I then ask for weather forecast and get a verbal response.
I also noticed with iOS 18, when you ask Siri, what time is my alarm set for, she now just responds with I found one alarm. She used to tell you the time of the alarm so that you could change it without looking at your phone.
Happened to me also
after I change my phone to 16 pro with ios 18
Siri seems not to respond to my voice
even i recalibrate with turn off and on “Hey, Siri”
even I restarted my phone It workd just for a while
but my previous iphone 11 pro was working fine.
They may be the way it was intended to work but the implementation was buggy. It does not speak aloud if sitting on your desk without anyone looking at it. It puts the answer on the screen without saying anything whether or not you’re looking at it. Buggy.
My personal experience is Automatic is not reliable enough. Apple probably has to fine tune the algorithm. No surprise on a first gen product. I’m happy with prefer spoken and my expectations are such I don’t expect perfection in a first gen product. Just me. You do you. 😀
Does it speak aloud If you invoke her saying Hey Siri?
Its in the settings
This method worked for me as well. You should restart your phone after doing this.
I noticed Siri not speaking to me when I called it and tried everything that was suggested like turning off the iPhone, etc. I found the only thing that worked for me was to turn off the AI button.
Same! I tried toggling Siri off and on, but no luck. I found some tips online and decided to reinstall iOS 18.

It's not always the iOS update's fault! Many things can cause phone problems. If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.
Remember, the right question often leads to the solution! Please look in the right direction.

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.
Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.
Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.

same here, and before I get treated like a toddler with their first Smart phone… I have already checked everything that could possibly be an issue, location services are on, Siri responses are sent to prefer spoken responses, backgrounding is on, I'm connected to the Internet, I'm on Wi-Fi, I'm not an airplane mode, siri will tell me a story, siri will tell me a joke, but will not tell me the effing weather.
Anyone found a solution? On my phone after updating to IOS 18, Siri just announces "A notification from messages" and no longer reads out the actual message which seems quite useless - I have checked, doublechecked og rechekced all settings...
I can confirm that my iPhone 14 Siri is broken after the update. It works occasionally, and I feel like a bad parent who has to yell at her to get to respond sometimes. OR the best is navigation that will only occasionally tell me when to turn?
