Import video from an other device (zoom) in IMovie

Why can't I import a mp4 file video in iMovie?

Hi,

What steps are you doing to import the file, and what happens when you try?

Not all Mp4 works in iMovie. It must be Mp4/AAC. AAC stands for Advanced Audio Coding. So perhaps there is something in Zoom's Mp4 bucket that is incompatible with iMovie.

You could try importing to your desktop rather than directly into iMovie. Then try to drag from there into iMovie.

If that doesn't work, try re-encoding the movie to Mp4/AAC with the free download, Handbrake. Handbrake will re-encode to Mp4/AAC by default. Do the re-encoding even if the clip format already is Mp4/AAC/

You can get Handbrake here:

https://handbrake.fr/

A simple way to do it is to open Handbrake and do a File/Open Source. From the resulting screeen navigate to your video on your desktop and choose it as the source. Then do File/Start Encoding. Wait a couple of minutes for the conversion to complete. Then save and import the converted clip into iMovie.
