IOS update erased esim

I have an iphone 14 and two esims, one from TMobile and the other one foreign (Movistar)

Being in the US, the foreign esim dissapeared. July 2024.

It seems to have been erased by a system update (to 17.5.1)

I've seen other cases here, but all dated 2023, and no final reply, as to whether the bug had been fixed or a turnaround found.

Now the phone "wants" to update to 17.6.1. Can I do it safely? Recovering the esim for my foreign service took time and effort. I am abroad now, and preventively have disabled auto uptdates.
