After updating my MacBook Pro I am getting duplicate messages only on the MacBook Pro

Updated to sonoma 14.6.1 and now I'm getting duplicate texts on the mbp. Not duplicate like it just appears twice and is identical or is split between email and phone number as if they're on separate cards, but the second version shows me as in a two person group with this contact as if I'm not the person that controls the device. If I reply in that thread it doesn't show up as if I'm texting myself, i.e. I'm only a sender not a sender and receiver. So far it only sends duplicate messages to the mac, the phone isn't duplicating and it's inconsistent. I've checked settings on both devices, send and receive is to two addresses, the associated phone number and apple ID which is the same for both devices. The same phone number is set to "start new conversations from." I've restarted things, I've clicked unclicked, synced, signed out/in. I've checked my contact card, I have checked the other people's contact cards, in one case the only thing listed is their phone number so it's not like it's splitting between their email and their phone.

This topic in general on a one time search has 6900. Is apple just ignoring this problem? This isn't the first time I've had a problem with duplicate messages but this is the first time I've had a problem where my computer doesn't recognize me as the person doing texting.

It started splitting on the MBP as soon as I upgraded to 14.6.1. One was the original group, and the other was the same set of people plus

<my phone number> Maybe: <my name>

It doesn't have anything to do with Android users sending a picture, in my case, but there is at least one Android user in the group.

Now messages to this group go into one or the other seemingly randomly and it is very confusing. Starting today it spread to the iPhone itself, now I have two groups there, too!

I'm having the same problem since upgrading to 14.6.1. Before that upgrade Messages worked fine for both group and 1-on-1 threads. After the update I'm getting multiple threads in Messages; the original one and a new one that contains all the original recipients AND me. So, far it hasn't affected my iPhone and the messages seem to be working fine on it.

I understand this forum is user to user. It doesn't change the fact that this is a common problem stretching back a couple years through multiple ios/OS that happens to people without them changing settings. This isn't even the first time it happened to me after an update, just the first time it happened this way. At a certain point this is a predictable issue and apple should figure out why. The last time I got help from Apple directly on this type of issue they had no idea why it was happening and it was "solved" by a reset of the device. Which is probably why a new version of it is happening again. When you talk to Apple support you're not talking to the developers which is where the issue starts if problems arise after an update even though the user doesn't touch any settings.

And it doesn't change the fact that Apple doesn't (for them most part) read or respond here. So, addressing them here an expecting them to respond is an exercise in futility and frustration.

I never said I expected them to respond, but to assume these forums are entirely without moderation or monitored for trends being that they're run on apple servers would be a weird. Companies like this never fully ignore things run on their own systems, at minimum because if they can spot trends in frequently requested features they can make money. Companies this large data mine their user complaints and questions for all sorts of reasons, including R&D.

Just because you think companies do or should work a certain way doesn't mean they do.
