SMS synchronisation 13.6
Good evening Dear Apple Users,
The problem description:
SMS (as opposed to iMessage) does not synch across to my MacBook Pro M1.
I'll elaborate on that. SMS from outside do come to Messages on my MacBook. I cannot send any from my computer and I get a notice: Message failed. The special codes sent via text message are correctly assigned by the system into their prompt windows.
Now, there seems to be a difference between apple silicon and Intel. Intel based computers do not receive SMS at all. Please, please do you own test.
More information. The ability to send the SMS from a computer was lost between macOS 13.3 and 13.5.1
Sorry, I did not notice the exact moment. It is because I could still get the messages. Failure to send I just associated with some network problem.
However, two of my friends who use Intel based Macs did notice the problem, as their computers stopped receiving the text messages all together. That of course includes safety codes.
I run 13.6 on my M1 Mac. I am not brave enough to upgrade to 14.0. All my programmes run on 13.6 and I just don't want to learn the hard way that they don't on 14.0.
I also use iPad Air 4 with iPadOS 17.0.2 and the sms sychs correctly.
Apple support want to run some tests on my config. The thing is that I have not touched the setup since all the messages worked correctly. In my opinion it is the macOS update fault, and if they want to find the cause they should run the tests.
Come on Apple your hardware costs a lot do something about the functionality.
I wish everybody a nice evening/morning
Piotr
