Duplicate chats on Mac but not iPhone... Mac is adding an additional me with +1 to my number and recognizing it as a new device/contact

This seems to have started when I changed laptops from an M1 to an M1 Pro; I double that is the issue just trying to give context. I also used the migration tool and connected both Macs via USB C and have not wiped the M1. On my iPhone, all is well. I have a group chat with my family and all of those messages show inside of one group message. On my Mac, it appears to be adding a contact... me. It adds the Country Indicator (+1) to my number and creates a new group. I can still respond to the og group chat but all responses (or most responses) are in the duplicate chat. I'll add pictures...

The Correct group chat has the following contacts (5 total): Mom, Dad, Sister, Sister

The duplicate group chat has the following contacts (6 total): Mom, Dad, Sister, Sister, +1 Me

This is happening in multiple group chats.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I am having the same issue. I spent three hours on phone yesterday with Apple Help. Then ended up telling me I needed to reinstall the OS. I was due for a new computer for work anyway and got one overnight. I ported over from Time Machine, brand new computer and same issues.

There is something going on. I did everything, add the +1, block myself!, sync, etc. Nothing works.

This happened for me overnight on computer I've had since 2019. Now same issue with brand new laptop. They said there was something fault in my user profile and to reinstall the OS. I don't see how that's the issue if you are having the same problem. If you go back in the chat history, there are a lot of people with this issue going back years. Mine only happens when there is an Android user in the group chat. My imessage-only is fine. It's not a data/server issue because it's fine on the phone.
