MacBook Pro M3 Pro Crashing Frequently

This is my second brand new MacBook Pro M3 Pro 36 GB in 3 weeks. Everything is up to date - Sonoma 14.5. The first one crashed 1-5x every day so customer service sent a new one. The new one is better but lots of applications stop working and become non-responsive. Unable to force quit. Even if I only have 1 application open. Happens in chrome, safari, and the calendar. Once the application becomes unresponsive, none of the other applications work and I have to shut down my laptop and start again (can't restart). Has anyone experienced this & resolved the issue as tech support couldn't find anything?

I see not many reports on these forums in relation to M3 Macs and them crashing. So, see the following...

Troubleshooting a Crashing Mac:

A. RAM Consumption being the Culprit:

As for Chrome, this app may consuming lost of RAM. So, view the Activity Monitorseeing what is consuming the most of it, and close whatever it may be. More on Activity MonitorActivity Monitor User Guide - Apple Support.  See my reply to this post: News Streaming Sites Consuming Lots of RAM ( >4GB) - User Tip

B. Create New User:

For temporary use, create a new Administrator. See what happens when you log in to it. Do you still get this issue? If not, then is it a misconfiguration in the current user. If so, then you'd likely have to resinstall the macOS.

C. Reinstall the macOS:

Nothing would be lost. It's just that misplaced items would be placed back to where they should be and corrupt system files would be replaced by clean files. Go Here: Reinstall macOS - Apple SupportImportant: Prior to installing an update or performing a reinstallation, to prevent data loss, be sure to Back up your Mac with Time Machine.

D. A Bug in the Update:

It might be a bug in the update. Apple might come out with a fix, but they'll only know of this if it is reported.

E. Report this to Apple:

Do your Part: Report this to AppleApple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback Apple receives on this, the more they will know what is going on, and what needs to be fixed in upcoming updates.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - macOS - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: on when this all began, and how you have troubleshot it thus far. Include the URL to this thread.
  4. Proceed from there as necessary

Both of my MacBook Pros were new (not refurbished). The first one started crashing after the first 6 hours. After speaking with online tech support & in store, I was connected to customer service & sent a new one because I'd had it for less than 2 weeks. this second one is better as it hasn't crashed as much but everyday apps are crashing. the system has only crashed once in 1 week. I wonder if it's common with M3 Pros.

If a New Mac Keeps Crashing:

IMO: I had this issues doing the days of COVID. I had to send it in for service 11 times. Being so patient, I was granted a new MacBook Pro. So, either get this serviced by setting up a Genius Bar Appointment at your local Apple Store, or purchase AppleCare for this. Contact Apple Support for More:

"Also 36gig M3 Pro here...I am finding applications tend to glitch out [...]all the time. I'm assuming it's related to the architecture change from intel and we're gonna have to put up with this a couple years. So far the only thing I'm impressed with is the battery life..."

IMPORTANT:

Inform Apple of This Via Feedback:

Most certainly provide this as feedback to Apple as a way to inform them of this issue. It is something they should most certainly know about, in my opinion, being such a change of User Friendliness in the macOS. Apple will know nothing of your opinions if you don't provide them to them.

So, Provide the Feedback:

  1. Go Here: Feedback - macOS - Apple
  2. Select: "Feature Request" select “Feedback Type"
  3. Select: “Applications/Utilities” for the “Feedback Area
  4. Comment: on how you think things should be different and what should be added. Include the URL of this thread.
  5. Proceed from there as necessary
