Face Time random thumbs up emojis

During Face Time video calls, Apparently they are supposed to be in response to your gestures that it sees in the video. They are not, they are random as one moves around in normal conversation. I am not able to generate them on purpose, but they occur intermittenly and unexpectedly. I had to google how to turn them off, which was not self evident. Hopefully in the next face time call they will have stopped for me. It seems that they were introduced with Sonoma, and only the people who want them could activate them. It was the other way round - default was on and I had to search for how to stop them

I agree. The gestures seem completely random. In two conversations with my daughter on FaceTime (I have iPhone 11, she has 13 or 14) thumbs up icons popped up for no apparent reason. When we tried to make them happen by doing a thumbs up, nothing happened 🤷‍♂️
