On the current version, 17.0.2, the ability to play next on your current episode seems to have disappeared? So if I’m listening to a podcast, but want to play the next one on my list and come back to my current podcast episode later, the ‘play next’ is no longer in the list of options. Annoying, I don’t see any reason why you’d need to delete it?

Unfortunately, I cannot find a way to "play next" even when going to the episode.
I hope they bring back the "play next" feature.
Glad it isn’t just me who misses it, and I wasn’t sure if I’d explained it properly! Thanks for replying. Can also ‘go to episode’ and ‘play next’ from there. I just don’t see why they’ve removed it, it’s almost like it’s the one app which could do with some really thorough user and usability testing, the menu queue is a pain as well and the ability to reinstate lists if you make a mistake.
There comes a time when products and services offered by those corporations that are in the top 1% with regard to revenue stop caring about what their customers enjoy about said products and services, and start make changes that no customer would want or request, such as providing an option to create a playlist and then not playing in order those podcasts in the list (see also, the continuing degradation of the file search function in Windows).
I've never been crazy about Apple products, but my wife bought me one of the first and I've stuck with them ever since because there were features I liked, such as Apple's podcast. However, the next time I need a new tablet, there's no reason for it to be an iPad if the device provides nothing I want.
same here, so annoying. i found if you hit '...' next to the episode and download it, you can then go to the downloaded tab and the '...' menu there still has 'play next' option available. hopefully they change this back soon :/
