Used to play next episode, now jumps to newest podcast

Before iOS 16, apple podcasts would queue up next episode in the podcast I was currently listening to and wait for me to press play.

After iOS 16, apple podcasts queues up the newest episode of ALL of the podcasts in my library. Not only can I not just continue on to the next episode of the podcast I chose to listen to, it forces me to jump to an entirely different podcast and not even the next unplayed one, but the newest episode of that podcast, skipping all the previous unread ones.

Why did apple change this? I cannot figure out how to go back to the old settings. The only documentation I can find on line suggests I have to create a playlist to overide the broken up next list. No thank you, I have way too many podcasts to constantly create playlists.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I am about ready to switch to Google or worse Spotify...gross.

Totally broken. Up Next simply plays the next podcast sequentially date/time-wise even if the next podcast is wholly unrelated to the previous podcast. I can't wait to hear why Apple thinks this is the best for users.

I have the same problem AND it marked all my older podcast episodes as unplayed. I have tried creating a new playlist, but nothing works. I'm with you in jumping over to another podcast player. This is ridiculous that they broke it this bad with no acknowledgment of it occurring.

So many problems after the newest update - I just switched to Overcast because I am so frustrated with Apple Podcasts now! Episodes will play over and over even though I have new episodes to play and my setting is to delete after playing - that is only one of the frustrations after the newest update!

The link for Product Feedback is very nice except that there is no place in their lists for actual problems with the Podcasts app itself, just the podcasts individually. Podcasts is not listed as an app, which it is in addition to being a service. Very frustrating—obviously they don't want feedback in the functioning of the app.

As the Podcast app is part of the basic install, just use the iPhone feedback section. As long as you explain your concerns in the text box, Apple will know how to route it.

That's correct. Apple doesn't respond directly to feedback. That's clearly stated on the feedback page. That doesn't mean, however, that they are not reading it and considering whether or how to act on it.
