IOS 17.1 and Apple TV also fresh on 17.1. Both restarted.
With the remote app I can’t swipe anymore. Nothing happens.
I can switch to directionkeys and it works just fine.
My wife can swipe, she’s still on 17.0.1, so my wild guess is 17.1.

I was able to fix this by turning off the Directional Buttons which allows it to go back to swipe gestures instead.
To change this, I went into
Settings -> Accessibility -> Apple TV Remote
Then toggle off "Directional Buttons" if it's on
