New Apple TV remote 10 seconds forward/backward feature

On the New Apple TV remote and on the Iphone control center App, the 10 seconds forward/backward feature does not work at all. At least not with the NFL App. I have tried pushing the left and right ring arrows and it only pauses the playback. I have tried resting my thumb on the left/right arrows for at least one second and then rolling my thumb to simultaneously press the center pad but this absolutely does not work. This simple feature works easily on the second gen remote but does not work at all on the latest remote.

Anyone have a solution?
