Apple TV remote and iPhone remote won't recognise swipe function

Apple TV just stopped recognising swipe function on remote. Paired iPhone and also does not recognise swipe funtion. Buttons work on both remote and iPhone, just can't go left and right. Have re-paired a number of times with both devices. Can't check software on Apple TV as remote won't scroll. Any ideas?

The swipe functionality on the software remote on iPhone, is configured in iPhone Settings:

Settings﹥Accessibility﹥Apple TV Remote﹥Directional Buttons﹥On|Off

The swipe functionality on the Siri Remote is configured in Apple TV Settings:

Settings﹥Remotes and Devices﹥Clickpad﹥Click and Touch|Click Only

To clarify my specific symptoms - they are the same as the OP. When using the iPhone Remote app, the tap functions work reliably, but the swipe function is not reliable. My Apple watch works reliably.

The Apple TV is connected via ethernet to a Unifi switch and there is a Unifi AP in the same room as the Apple TV, so I'm not convinced that Wi-Fi cross-channel interference is causing this problem. I am around 3M from the Unifi AP.

Restarting the iPhone is not a permanent fix. I restarted yesterday and swipe worked, but it's not working today.

My wife's phone is swiping ok today. I've just restarted mine and it's now working ok. No correlation between seating position and swiping reliability.

I have the same problem with my iPhone (15 Pro) the remote app works intermittiently, but the remote app on my watch is better.

My wife has the same phone and her remote app is usually more reliable.

Same Wi-fi network. Approx 3M from the Apple TV, nothing obscuring the signal. Tried restarting the Apple TV (Gen 1 4K), dosn't help.

Restarting the iPhone has helped

That is not the same as OP’s issue with tapping vs. swiping.

Approx 3M from the Apple TV

As the software remote uses the home network, the distance to the router is relevant (and any obstructions in between), not the distance between iPhone and Apple TV box.

Restarting the iPhone has helped

Is that a permanent fix, or does this have to be repeated?

Possibly you all have the regular seating per person, as many households do, where localized interference may play a role? Interference may be in the room or house, but it could also be from a neighboring network at the same Wi-Fi frequency or close to it. As little a few feet could make a difference, depending on source of interference. Does the issue switch when you change seating places? Does the issue switch when you use each other’s phone (for the remote)?

Same problem with my iPhone 14 Pro Max. The swipe function works again for some time after restarting the iPhone but after a fairly short time the problem comes back again. I’m speculating but I assume there is another app interfering with the remote and once it’s used it affects the swiping function in the Siri Remote app…

Did anyone find a solution to this problem?
