AppleTV remote app on iPhone doesn’t connect to AppleTV after IOS 17 install

I have a habit of putting the Apple Remote down and forgetting where I put it. So I use the AppleTV remote app on my iPhone 11 plus.

Since installing IOS 17 and then 17.0.1 the iPhone App can’t even see the AppleTV device.

The app shows the rotating dots and the message searching.

I have powered both devices off and on. Both have the latest iOS / TViOS. iPhone is connected via WiFi on home router and AppleTV is connected to the same router/network. iPhone has access to cellular data and

network. Both devices have Bluetooth on and I have tried to pair them with no success.

Both worked fine before the iOS 17 installation. iPhone asks me if this is the Bedroom or the Living Room AppleTV it should connect to, so the old information should be there. No VPN running.

I have the same problem. For what it’s worth, this has been an issue for me (and seemingly many others) over the years.

Unfortunately, most of the older posts have extremely unserious answers along the lines of “you need to connect to the same network” or “see this article on setting up your Apple TV remote” which is both laughable and frustrating.

I’ve spent far too much time trying to figure this out. Looking forward to finding a solution!
