Every time my iPhone 12 screen goes dark (hibernates) my Apple TV Remote App on the phone fails to reconnect unless I reboot my phone. It is so frustrating. I now turn on my Apple TV with my phone then use my Sony TV remote to change channels. All software and Wi-Fi router are up to date and I am ok with home sharing. Do I need a new Apple TV box or is this a system wide problem?
I can’t replicate your issue with my iPhone 12 mini and my Apple TV A1842. The software remote seems to work fine after screen lock/sleeping for a bit. I don’t need to restart the phone ever, except as part of iOS updates.
