Mac Mini M2 suddenly died

Hi, I bought a new Mac Mini M2 with 256GB HD and 16GB RAM. It arrived in May and I set it up for use. Everything has been fine. Until the other morning that is. I pressed the button to turn it on. No power and no power light. I tried the obvious, different power cord and different outlet. I tried hold the power button for 10 seconds, etc. No power, and no power light. I can't hear a fan or anything. It just won't power on. There's been no trauma to the device and there's been no issues at all. I took it to the local carry in shop after opening an Apple support case. The worker there told me it may just need to OS reinstalled. Does this sound like a dead motherboard? I'm really hoping I don't have to pay anything to have it fixed given it's almost brand new.

You have 90 days of free Apple phone support, one year of warranty coverage, and more coverage if you opted for AppleCare+. You should schedule time with an Apple Store, or Apple Authorized Service Center regarding diagnostics and warranty work. Any other "carry-in" facility should not touch your Mac, and could void your factory warranty if they attempt to "service" your M2 mini.

If Apple does opt for a replacement, that 256 GB storage is insufficient for modern operating system and storage growth. Get more storage and I would say 512 GB is the lowest I would recommend. That 16GB RAM is also a minimum and more would be better. Neither are upgradeable on the current M2 mini though.

Thank you for the reply. I did take the unit to a carry-in center that I scheduled through Apple care. It was them that referred to it as a carry-in as it's not an actual Apple store. My hope is they replace the unit if it does have a faulty board as it's only 2 months old. I doubt very much the sizing has anything to do with the issue and that sizing is right for my use case.
