Iphone duplicating messenger group chats

Every time I click on a group chat in messenger on my iphone 11 running, in ios 16.5.1, it creates a new chat and doesn’t open the old one. Everyone in the chat gets a new group chat message. I have to use my PC to delete the chats.

Please advise.
