The serial number appears in microscopic print on the bottom of the device near the hinge. You will need a bright light source, perhaps magnification, and exceptional vision to see the s/n.
You should not make any assumptions about Apple's serial numbering scheme as it changed after the 2019 model year.
FWIW, a MacBook Air 2020's serial number could begin with F. The first three characters represent where it was manufactured.

Verify the Serial Number from About this Mac matches the serial number appearing on the Original Apple Sealed White Box >> S/N
They should Match Exactly.
If not, the machine has been repackaged.

edit: I found a few links that do say Apple started changing the format in 2021.
