2023 M2 Mac Mini serial number not recognized by Apple Trade In program

I purchased my M2 Mac Mini via Apple.com, and am looking to upgrade. I am hoping to trade in my M2 Mac Mini, but when entering the serial number into the trade in program, the page seems to indicate that it has no idea what that serial number actually is, as it then asks what model of Mac I have, and what year it came out (with late 2020 being the most recent option). Afterward, it says that it's only eligible for recycling. The serial number is the same everywhere I've looked (packaging, under the Mac, on the Mac, etc.).

Am I missing something? How is this not being recognized?

Mac mini, macOS 14.0

Generally, current model Macs are not eligible for trade-in online. It also may be due to what are trying to upgrade to. If it is a current model for another current model MacMini but just different specs, trade-ins are usually not eligible.

You may need to contact Apple directly to see if they can accept the trade via a phone purchase.
