Simultaneous HomePod updates crashing WiFi

I have 5 of the latest HomePod mini’s throughout my home. I have a Wi-Fi 6 Orbi mesh network w/2 satellites covering about 2k sq ft. And gigabit internet. 

Yet, somehow every time the HomePods receive a software update, it overwhelms my network and things grind to a halt. 

I’m sure 2.5GB updates (x5) are hard. But why are the HomePods not designed to intelligently detect network needs and space out the updates or something?? Or at least do that in the middle of the night so only my security cameras go down 😏 

Do I really need to log into my Wi-Fi settings to figure out how to throttle the bandwidth of these HomePods? or has anyone else come up with a better solution?

This all feels way more hands-on and involved from an end user perspective than what I expect from Apple.
