iPad books app after iOS 16.3.1

After installing iOS 16.3.1, the books app lost almost all functionality. The print size became microscopic in all the books and could not be enlarged as most of the features, such as print size, background lighting etc., were gone. Is there a fix available or on the way? I'm switching to Glose and Kindle for now, but most of my library is on iBooks and is currently unusable.

Tap in the middle of the page to bring up the round-cornered box with lines and dots on the bottom right. This is where changes are now made. The x top right closes the book.
