Why has my blu ray drive stopped working?

I’ve an Archgon branded blu-ray burner drive: that was — until recently — showing up on my Mac: 21.5” Intel iMac running macOS 13.2.

I managed to rip some blurays with it, recently.

Today, when I try and burn a Ubuntu OS disc to a blank DVD — with Burn.app — the app can’t find the drive.

The OS isn’t recognising it: the Eject drop-down in my menu bar tells me there’s ‘No drives’.

The System Profiler tells me there are no connected devices: after I unplugged the thing, changed cables and restarted the machine.

As an extra point? The drive shows up on perfectly well on my spare Mac: an aging first generation MacPro tower running Mountain Lion. It is — according to that machine’s System info — a Pioneer BD-RW BDR-UD04.

I recently upgraded to macOS 13.2: and cannot revert to earlier software: as my Time Machine back up doesn’t go far enough.

How on EARTH do I get the drive to show up, again?
