Can't Keep Junk Mail Filtering Enabled in Mail

I'm not able to keep junk mail filtering enabled on my MacBook Pro. After checking the "enable junk mail filtering" box and setting the other junk mail options, upon closing mail and reopening it, the "enable junk mail filtering" box is unchecked.

I've tried logging out of my account and back in, restarting, and resetting my junk mail filtering options, and nothing has worked.

I have a new MacBook Pro, and set it up as a new Mac.

I have three mail accounts (iCloud, gmail and Comcast).

On my old MacBook Pro, I had no problems with this feature in mail.

Any suggestions? I've perused the community and Apple Support articles, and can't find anything on point.

Hi Jeep2691,

We appreciate you connecting with us here in Apple Support Communities. You've done some great troubleshooting so far to get this sorted out with your mail filters. We'd suggest that you now try starting up your Mac in safe mode to see if the issue also occurs there: You can see how to do so here: Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support

Start up your Mac with Apple silicon in safe mode
1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > Shut Down.
Wait for your Mac to shut down completely. A Mac is completely shut down when the screen is black and any lights (including in the Touch Bar) are off.
2. Press and hold the power button on your Mac until “Loading startup options” appears.
3. Select a volume.
4. Press and hold the Shift key, then click Continue in Safe Mode.
The computer restarts automatically. When the login window appears, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar.

Please keep in mind that starting in safe mode will take a bit longer than a normal start up.

Keep us posted on the results.

Thanks.

Thank you for the suggestion, Keisha_Keisha.

As it turns out, I contacted Apple Support on this. The support representative had me try a number things, including your suggestion. The problem still exists in safe mode. The support representative assisted me in obtaining a disk image and some additional files, which he then forwarded to a software development team. They still are looking at the issue.

I'll report back when I hear from that team.
