Text Replacement Feature Ignored

I have it set up to where my phone will automatically replace contractions with the no-apostrophe version while autocorrect is turned on for convenience when talking to friends, as I tend to type in lowercase with them and “its” and others has a less-serious tone attached to it. However, on my iPad, it seems to ignore the replacements I’ve set up and replace with the normal yet lowercase version when autocorrect is turned on. i.e. ive automatically becomes i’ve (not I’ve) if I don’t tap the version I normally use. I know iOS and iPadOS are technically different variants of the same OS now, but it feels like features would work mostly the same. I have no idea if this is intended behavior or a bug, but if it is intended, is there a way I can set up my keyboard to behave more like my phone’s?

Hello jprcoyote,

You may find some helpful info and steps for using text replacements on the iPad here: Save keystrokes with text replacements on iPad - Apple Support

Have a word or phrase you use and don’t want it corrected?
Go to Settings  > General > Keyboard, then tap Text Replacement.
Tap the Add button at the top right, then enter your word or phrase in the Phrase field, but leave the Shortcut field blank.

You may also use iCloud to keep your personal dictionary up to date on each device with this info from the page:

Use iCloud to keep your personal dictionary up to date on your other devices
Go to Settings  > [your name] > iCloud, then turn on iCloud Drive.

If you wish to try and reset things, try this step:

Reset your personal dictionary
1. Go to Settings  > General > Reset.
2. Tap Reset Keyboard Dictionary.
3. All custom words and shortcuts are deleted, and the keyboard dictionary returns to its default state.

Be sure to also check for any iPadOS updates, to help ensure the latest improvements have been applied: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Cheers.
