Outlook is no longer recognised by iTunes. Why not

I understand that support for synchronisation has been removed from iTunes. Certainly, I haven't been able to carry out a synch of my iPhone to my PC for several months. The only option I am offered by Apple is to synch via iCloud but I don't use iCloud and prefer to keep my data local.

See If you see an alert in iTunes that says syncing contacts and calendars has been deprecated - Apple Support. I don't sync with iTunes myself, but reports from other users suggest that iTunes 12.12.7.1 still allows for syncing personal data. The switch off hasn't happened yet, you're getting a heads up that it will.

That is not the case.

If you have iCloud turned on on your device that will be why you cannot Sync directly with iTunes. On your phone, look in Settings / <your account id> / iCloud and make sure it is off.

If you do not have iCloud turned on, then there must be another issue since syncing with iTunes is still possible. In this event, you will need to look for the symptoms you experience, not what you think is wrong.
