Since 16.1.1 Update my Siri no longer works in my car

I had recently updated my iPhone to 16.1.1 iOS. Once updated, I used the button I always do in my car to access Siri hands free. As usual I told her to play a certain artist from my music library. I’ve been using it since 2019, when I purchased my car and it has always worked up till this point. The beep had changed and she said something concerning about a 7 day free trial. I told her to cancel since I don’t use or have any intention of using Apple Music paid subscriptions. I have tons of paid music already in my library. Anyhow. When I use Siri, I tell her to play a specific artist and she says something along the lines of…”now playing artist…”. And repeats the artist I had told her. But no, She isn’t playing it. She isn’t playing an artist remotely similar in name or album. Somehow artist “In This Moment” is now playing “Tool” or “Korn”. I’ve tried several times and she is getting it wrong each time, even after I restarted my phone. How do I get Siri to start working again? Please tell me I won’t have to pay for service I have been utilizing for years.

Hi there justalilbatty,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that Siri isn't responding as expected when you try to play music from your library. First, there is a newer update out now, iOS 16.1.2. We'd first recommend updating to that, then testing Siri with your music again.

Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

If the issue persists, we'd next recommend the following:

  1. Force close the Music app: Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch - Apple Support
  2. Restart your iPhone: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support
  3. Open the Music app and play a song
  4. Stop the song, then test with Siri playing a song or an artist

Let us know how it goes.

Take care.

I Had installed 16.1.2. Closed all open apps and restarted. It still does not work. Siri says she is playing it, but either plays something else or it does not play at all. I have tested it outside of the car and she still doesn’t work. To make matters worse, every time I attempt to get her to play something, it now gives me notifications for services I don’t want.
