Cannot delete repeating calendar event on Calendar App on MacBook Pro

I had to figure out the only way to delete a calendar event on my MacBook Pro. Used my iPhone. Delete function on my laptop did not work, and I created the repeating event. Instructions with help said to select the event and hit delete button. Did not work. Fix this please.
