BigSur Ver 11.5 suddenly not committing with my printer

My Pixma MG 5765 is suddenly not communicating with my Apple Laptop which is using Big Sur Ver 11.5. Is this a driver issue or something about the latest upgrade from Apple?

Hello,

The Canon MG5765 is mentioned in About AirPrint - Apple Support as a model supporting the driverless AirPrint technology. This means that it can be used without additional drivers from the printer manufacturer (if the printer and the computer are connected to the same network). Have you been using the MG5765 as an AirPrint printer?

When there is a problem, a first step can be to reset the printing system and re-add the printer:

Add a printer on Mac - Apple Support

In case of AirPrint, you may also want to try the following power-cycling sequence:

Power off the router, the printer, the computer, and all other devices (iPhones, et cetera). Wait two to three minutes. Power on the router. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the printer. Wait a minute or two. Power on the computer. Finally, power on all other devices.

Software from the printer manufacturer may or may not add functionality. Drivers will be needed for a USB connection.

If there is a scanning problem:

'You do not have permission to open the application' when using a scanner on Mac - Apple Support .

Canon has some details in https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/index?page=content&id=ART180175 .

I am sorry you are having printer problems. If you will bear with me, I will offer some things to consider. Whenever we install an operating system upgrade or some OS updates, printers and scanners will often stop working. Then a new OS compliant printer software must be installed. Experience has shown that many printer manufacturers are very slow to provide updated drivers. Drivers for some older printers are never provided. (Apparently, they prefer to sell new printers.) What we can do is to thoroughly check the printer web site for an updated driver that works. If one is not available, then we should ask when one will be released. If that doesn't work, if the Printer has the Air Print feature, that can be used and no driver will be needed. If not, then you can check the web site below where volunteers write drivers for older printers which are no longer supported, but which work with newer operating systems. It is worth checking out. Good luck.
