Laptop and printer suddenly won't communicate

The software that has been on my Mac Pro laptop for years that allowed me to print using my HP psc 1350 suddenly will not work. I tried downloading the software from HP, but it says it is no longer supported. Have I suddenly lost a printer?

Shutdown Mac and the printer.

Restart both and try.
