The disk came with USB-C/USB-C which is what I hoped to use. It also came with USB-C/USB-A which I had to use. Should I try to for the USB-C cable into the thunderbolt port? I have used other USB-C cables with no problem.
I have seen other people ask similar questions with no good responses.
I suppose you could buy a USB-C to USB-C for about $10 (£7 GBP) and use that instead of the LaCie one.
The cable fits fine in my MacBook m1 air, but it will not fit in the Mac M1 Mini.
It is weird and frustrating.
I can use a Samsung disk cable no problem. I have a USB C to USB A adaptor that works fine.
I have tried both ends of the LaCie right side up and upside down. I have tried both ports on the mini. I would expect the MBA and the mini to have the same ports.

I have a new M1 iMac with two Thunderbolt/USB-4 ports and I have connected my old USB drive with a USB-C adapter. If it fits on your MBA I can't see any reason why it shouldn't fit in the mini. I did find that the USB-C cable fitted but I had to face the back of my machine rather than reaching behind.
